Good Effort

Addie P. Abbott, Sheffield Hallam University

MTV chose Addie because...

He's dedicated, inspiring and a team player. Addie is reaching for the stars with his eclectic passion for aerospace engineering, astronomy and poetry. He's won the poetry title Headphunker at the Saint Lucia arts festival Headphunk and he's been active on the home fundraising circuit, raising money for charities like Cancer Research and the British Heart Foundation.

Addie has also run summer camps for youth and loves working with kids. He has an impressive following for his poetry across his social media platforms and is inspired by new artist Kendrick Lamar for not playing by the rules.

My name's Addie Peter Abbott. I'm 22 years old and I'm a third year BEng (Hons) Aerospace Engineering Student at Sheffield Hallam University and I currently live in Sheffield. Besides the Aerospace Sector, I'm a Spoken Word Poet and I believe that because of the honesty, emotion and creativity I bring to every poem, I stand out from the crowd and it is for this reason I am applying to be the Student of the Year. While maintaining a First overall during my second year at University, I was able to win the year long Poetry Slam competition at one of the Poetry Nights in Sheffield and have thus been awarded the title of "The Grand Bard of Sheffield." This has resulted in collaborations with Film and Media groups which have featured me in two Poetry related projects. I'm a pretty outgoing guy, who loves to chill out, have fun with the lads and being originally from St. Lucia allows me to add a bit of that Caribbean flare to every project I undertake. Its all about One Love, and being One people. Let's make some magic happen
